Lois Maxwell portrayed "Nancy Williams," a widow and mother living with her two teenagers, Billy and Hanna, in a secluded Lake Huron cove. Maxwell, famous for her role as Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond films, anchored the drama. The series focused on the adventures of Billy and his Ojibway friend Pete in the northern Ontario wilderness. It was a collaborative international effort involving Manitou Productions, CBC, Television Films Ltd. (Britain),and ABC Films (Britain) alongside the Australian Broadcasting Commission.
